Our production sites
Our production plants include Koskenkorva Distillery in Western Finland, a modern logistics facility at Gjelleråsen, Norway, an aquavit distillery in Sundsvall, Sweden, bottling plants in Rajamäki, South Finland, and in Tabasalu, Estonia, as well as warehouse facilities and offices in our other home markets. Anora Industrial’s technical ethanol plant is also located in Rajamäki.
Koskenkorva Distillery
The Koskenkorva Distillery, located in the village of Koskenkorva in Southern Ostrobothnia, Finland, is a modern production plant with a highly developed production technique, processes and a wide product range allowing for exceptional material efficiency. Grain spirit produced from pure Finnish barley is the key ingredient of our alcoholic beverages. The distillery operates according to the principles of the circular economy, which means that the barley grain is used fully – without waste – and all outputs are utilised either internally or by customers.
Circular economy at Koskenkorva
In addition to grain spirit, the Koskenkorva plant produces starch and raw material for animal feed. Even the carbon dioxide generated in the process is collected and used, for example, in greenhouse cultivation.
We also have our own bioenergy power plant at Koskenkorva, which uses barley husk as its fuel producing steam energy for the distillery. The use of renewable fuel has helped the Koskenkorva plant to cut down its fossil carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 50%. The plant’s self-sufficiency in terms of fuel in steam generation is about 60%. The circular economy at the Koskenkorva distillery brought Anora the Green Company of the Year award in 2018.
The Koskenkorva plant uses over 200 million kilos of Finnish barley annually – that's 17 truckloads of barley delivered to the plant every weekday of the year. The barley used at Koskenkorva represents about 15% of the total barley harvest in Finland, making Anora one of the largest buyers of barley in the country.
Koskenkorva Distillery's continuous distillation process
In continuous distillation, barley mash is ceaselessly fed into the distillation process. At Koskenkorva, distillation takes place in five distillation columns, each with its own roles and functions. There are also four supporting columns that recycle fusel alcohols from the main distillation and raise distillation efficiency up to 99%.
Continuous distillation has several advantages compared to regular batch distillation, such as the ability to distill larger amounts more efficiently. Also, there is no need for unnecessary washing, which decreases water consumption, chemical and energy use, and ensures uniform quality.
Gjelleråsen production plant
Anora's Gjelleråsen production plant, situated outside Oslo, Norway, is one of the newest and most advanced in Europe. The 52,000 m2 production facility operates mainly with geothermal energy and houses a full-service logistics operation, modern bottling plant and distillery as well as an accredited quality assurance laboratory.
The home of iconic aquavits
Our production has five copper pot-stills for the distillation of iconic aquavit qualities such as Lysholm Linie, Aalborg, Gammel Opland and Løiten. Our production handles a large volume of incoming wines in bulk, as well as raw materials and botanicals for spirit production. Over 8,000 oak casks are stored in our warehouse, maturing different aquavits from 6 months upward to decades for some qualities. All our casks are maintained by our skilled coopers with their unique craftmanship.
The state-of-the-art bottling plant operates with seven bottling lines handling over three hundred different units in packaging formats ranging from glass, PET, Bag-in-Box and minis. Our iconic wine brands Falling Feather, Ruby Zin and Wongraven are amongst those bottled at Gjelleråsen. Quality control and sensory tests are carried out by our accredited laboratory both prior to and after bottling.
Vectura is our logistics unit, offering a full range of inbound logistics services, storage and product distribution in Norway. Its partners include well over a hundred producers and importers of alcoholic beverages, covering the entire range from the largest industrial players to small family-owned craft producers. Vectura handles roughly 12,000 different products. Vinmonopolet, the hotel and restaurant industry and wholesalers are their main customers.
Rajamäki alcoholic beverage and technical ethanol plants
Anora produces wines and spirits under more than 700 brand names at its industry-leading alcoholic beverage plant in Rajamäki. With the exception of cognac, brandy and some speciality products, Anora's own products are bottled at the Rajamäki plant. The plant has six lines for bottles and two for climate-smart Bag-in-Box containers. Our comprehensive quality assurance system includes a broad range of samples, checks and measurements at different stages of production.
The Rajamäki plant has about 230 employees. The production department works in three shifts. Annual production is over 60 million litres.
The Rajamäki technical ethanol plant processes ethanols, solvents and their mixtures for a broad range of industrial needs. Read more about our technical ethanols on Anora Industrial's website.
Clean groundwater
In addition to the grain spirit produced at Koskenkorva, our production of spirits is based on clean groundwater. The groundwater in Rajamäki has been used for the production of beverages since 1888, when operations began in the Rajamäki plant area. Anora protects the quality of the groundwater in its nearby areas through land ownership and by restricting construction in the area and establishing conservation areas.
Wine production
Anora’s role in wine production involves tasks related to processing wine.
