Anora is part of Carbon Action pilot, aiming at developing more sustainable agricultural practices

Developing sustainable agricultural practices is of high importance to Anora since Finnish barley is a key ingredient in Anora’s beverages. Anora’s Koskenkorva distillery uses over 210 million kilos of Finnish barley a year. The barley is sourced from about 1,500 farms, which covers approximately 2.5% of the total field area in Finland and which is representing around 15% of the total barley crop in Finland.

The central target of the new commitment is to increase the share of regeneratively farmed barley used in Anora’s grain-based spirits to 30% by 2030.

As part of the commitment Anora’s selected contract farmers have participate in the Carbon Action pilot by dedicating a section from their fields in order to study the impact of the farming practices on soil for a period of five years. Anora covers the costs from soil sampling and informs the contract farmers about the project’s results such as the ways to enhance soil carbon storage and improve soil health.
